Preliminary Task Evaluation

For are preparation of are preliminary task we drew a storyboard which contained all the various shots and dialogue we wanted to use. We then set about finding are location and came to the decision to use a staircase, hall way and classroom within are school. We used the staircase leading up to the English classroom that we also used for filming. We chose this location as are storyline took place in a school so it was ideal and there was a lot of space so we could use a wide range of shots. For are filming of the preliminary task we used one camera for all the shots. And for the editing we used an apple Mac book with the program Final cut express. Using a USB cable we linked the camera to the Mac book to transfer the film onto it. We took this film and used the in and out tool to divide the film we got off the camera into smaller chunks of the shots we wanted. This meant we could just drag and drop each section we wanted then neatened it up before adding the effects we wanted. We used two effects, slow mo and reverse, which we thought we did well and went well with the shots. Despite having only one camera I thing the match on action we did was to a good standard. I also think that most of the over shots were also at a good standard and created the effects we wanted them to. When it came to the editing I think that we got to grips with Final Cut quickly and most of the editing was almost or invisible and flowed well. We did face some difficulties during both the filming and editing of the preliminary task. During the filming we did struggle at first to get are match on action, as we wanted as we only had one camera. We also found it hard to keep the camera steady without a tripod, which affected the quality of are shots. In the editing stage we had to over come some minor difficulties, which was mainly how it cut from one shot to another. Overall I feel are preliminary task went well and we got to grips with all the equipment and came up with a decent pit of film. I feel we could of made it better by shooting different parts in a few ways then choosing the best one. Running the camera for a few seconds before starting a scene would help improve the quality of are editing a pit. For are main task I think that using a tripod will help the quality of are shots and as we are filming in a field a mic may be a good investment to a good quality of sound.
